“Stop Bibi” is Not a Policy. You Will Have to Do Better

The so called leaders of the “centre-left” have made it clear that their top priority is stopping Bibi.

Every time Yachimovich, Lapid and Livni open their mouths, the one thing we hear more than any other is Bibi, Bibi, Bibi.  Surely Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu could not hope for a better PR campaign.

Are Labour, Yesh Atid and Ha Tnua so lacking in ideas and policies to improve the situation in the country that the only thing they can now latch on to is a negative war cry, “stop Bibi”?

Absolutely not!  There are a host great ideas and policies which can work and which offer a true alternative to the “Bieberman” option.  So why have the campaigns thus far been so woefully inept?

Sorry guys, but you are going to have to do much better.  The “centre left” deserves far better from those who would be their leaders, not to mention the country,  which is in desperate need of far better.  The election campaigns of the centre left parties have been mediocre at best, with a lack of cohesion, little or no impact, a seeming lack of vision and worst of all, the perceived absence of true leadership.

The one thing Israel lacks today and what it desperately needs more than anything else is leadership.

True leadership is not built upon focusing on the negative or on “bad-mouthing” your opponents.  True leadership requires vision, courage and conviction.  True leaders convey a vision for a better world.  They make a stand.  They present a plan of action.  They make arguments and convince the electorate.

The one thing true leadership does not require is ego.  There is no shortage of talent in the centre left camp, however all three leaders appear to be too self-obsessed or worse still, too insecure to allow others in their parties to share the limelight.  Surely a talented team with multiple skills able to work together under confident leadership would be a more attractive alternative to the already and all too obviously self-obsessed Bibi.

Current polls suggest that over 30% of the electorate is still to make up its mind as to which party to vote for.  The Likud’s lurch to the “anti-democratic right” has presented a gift of opportunity to those who wish to take the centre ground.

Time is running out.  You have another two weeks to convince the electorate.  Stop this obsession with Bibi!   Stop putting him centre stage!

Make your arguments.  Talk about the issues.  Call upon and promote the vast array of talent within your parties.  Present the values, the policies, the ideas and importantly the team which could in fact run the country.

If you are able, then lead!

If not, you will not get another chance.
