Where’s a Hobbit When You Need One? Israel Needs a Fellowship to Defeat the Darkness

The forces of darkness are gathering, but this time not in Middle Earth, rather right here and right now. A dark fog is engulfing the state of Israel and we desperately need a “furry footed” hero to bear the burden of hope in our hour of need. Perhaps he is too busy with second breakfast or too immersed in the poems of Tom Bombadil, or perhaps he is just waiting for a fellowship to emerge which can guide and protect him in his quest to save the day.
Just as men, dwarfs and elves had to dispense with their fractious past and put away their egos; in order to ensure the brave little hobbit’s safe passage , as they knew there was absolutely no other way in which to save their world; so perhaps should the self-important and self-appointed guardians of democracy and social justice in this country get over themselves, throw away their egos and create a fellowship to stand up to the challenge of fighting and defeating the “Dark Lord” and his henchmen.
True enough, when one looks at those who might form such a fellowship, the heart sinks at the prospect. There may be a slight resemblance however Shelly Yachimovich is no Elvish princess. Yair Lapid may be the prince of Israeli media, but he is no king in waiting. Ehud Olmert may have worked some magic in the courts but he is no Wizard. Let’s face it any Dwarf analogy with Shaul Mofaz would be grossly unfair and disrespectful to the Dwarfs.
However it just might be, that if by some miracle, these individuals could stop thinking about themselves for a moment and joined forces for the good of the country; once joined together, perhaps they may become far more and far greater than the sum of their parts.
What these potential “comrades in arms”, or members of the fellowship if you prefer; must understand, what Shelly, Yair, Ehud, Tsipi and others must truly comprehend is that just as with the Fellowship of the Ring, their’s is a secondary role. They are not the heroes. They are there in order to protect and support the true heroes , the millions of ordinary people of Israel, who just like the small but immensely brave Hobbits; carry the real burden of light in this country.
If by some miracle a true fellowship can emerge and rally to the cause, not just one but millions of “Hobbits will emerge to defeat the forces of darkness and cast them out for eternity. Light can then be restored with peace and prosperity for all.
You may not believe in fairytales, but admit it… Such a miracle would indeed be truly precious!
