Dear Pro Palestinian (so called) and human rights activists around the world.

Shame on you.  I have watched with disbelief as you have mobilised to protest against Israeli aggression in Gaza.  I have seen how you can act in a matter of days if not hours, when you see a cause you deem worthy of your time and effort. I see you battling “aggression” and the “disproportionate use of force” on the part of Israel against our Palestinian brothers and sisters.  I see all this and wonder why 30 Palestinian deaths at the hands of Israel are so much more important to you than over 30,000 Syrian deaths at the hands of our own leaders.

For more than eighteen months now Bashar Al Assad and his henchmen have murdered our men, women and children.  We have begged you for help.  We have urged you to raise your voices in protest.  We have pleaded with you to call your governments to intervene and save us from the slaughter.

For over twenty months you have chosen to ignore our pleas.  You have chosen to remain silent.  I struggle to understand why in your eyes one thousand Syrian lives do not equal even that of one Palestinian life.  I labour to comprehend why you would be moved to action so quickly by the plight of Palestinians, and yet remain silent and inactive as we in Syria continue to be slaughtered.

Don’t get me started on Hamas’ atrocious human rights record in dealing with their own people, let alone the Israelis.  Yesterday they dragged one poor Palestinian out of prison to the main square in Gaza city and summarily executed him with a bullet to the head; as a so called “warning” to all Palestinians.  It has been well documented that Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters choose to hide behind their women and children, using them as human shields.  And these are the people you choose to support with your protest.

Could it be that your protests are not about the Palestinians, that you are not driven by the plight of innocents? Sadly the only conclusion I can come to is this.

It is your abject hatred of Israel itself which drives you out on to the streets to protest.  Ultimately for you the opportunity to attack the Jewish state is far more important and attractive to you than the urgent need to stop the real slaughter in the Middle East.  The double standards you show when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians are both lamentable and transparent to us all, as is your thinly veiled racism regarding Arabs where violence towards Arabs by their fellow Arabs is somehow accepted or dismissed, as if we did not know any better.

Why is it that for you, the death of one Palestinian at the hands of the Israeli military takes precedent over one thousand killed by the Syrian military.  Why is it that the delegitimization of Israel is so much more important to you than the criminal acts of the Syrian government?

How many Syrians have to die at the hands of our own government before you decide that we too are worthy of your support and action?

Do you really care about the Palestinians?  Do you really care about human rights?  Do you really want to see peace and justice in the Middle East?  Or is it just about “having a go at the Jews”?  Sadly the answer to that question is all too clear.

You claim to be friends and supporters of the oppressed.  Well, frankly I just don’t see it.  All I see is protest driven by hatred which serves no real purpose, other than your own self-gratification and feeble attempt to bring meaning in to your own otherwise empty lives… at our expense!

We are taught to be wary of false friends.

The basis for your protest is wholly false. Your hypocrisy is contemptible, your motivation questionable and your false sense of indignation wholly transparent.

Frankly I find your so called protests offensive.

Yours sincerely

Syrian and extremely pissed off!
